2012 WAC Conference Preview

The Western Athletic Conference has seen their top team depart and move on to bigger and better things in Boise State. And with just seven teams remaining in the conference, the future of the WAC is definitely in jeopardy with the nature of college football. It's a Darwinian era in the sport, and these smaller conference outside of the big six will probably have to figure out a way to survive. The WAC might be the first casualty.

But going into the 2012 college football season, the WAC is still preserved. As we said before though, they are the smallest conference in college football at the moment with just seven members.

At the top of the list of favorites to win the WAC this season are the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, going off at Even on the betting odds available at BetOnline Sportsbook. Actually, Louisiana Tech is an assertive favorite to win the conference.

San Jose State and Utah State fall next in line, both set at +300, which is three times the underdog than the favored Bulldogs.

Louisiana Tech is probably the most recognized team out of the Conference, as they have played with some of the big boys in the beginning of the season. But no team left in the WAC has played in a BCS bowl game. Back when Hawaii and Boise State were members, you can bet that college football paid more attention to these games, wondering if Boise State would slip up on their quest to an undefeated season and a chance at crashing the BCS party.

It doesn't appear that any BCS busters will be coming out of the WAS during the 2012 college football season.

The other members in the WAC include New Mexico State, Utah State, Idaho, and UTSA.
