Big 12 Conference Football Preview

The Big 12 conference takes on a new look this season, bringing in two new teams to the conference in the West Virginia Mountaineers and the TCU Horned Frogs. It's keeping with the recent trend in college football, moving toward more super conferences as the smaller conferences look like they might be in danger in the future. The move for TCU definitely made sense though, geographically and financially. The move for West Virginia was definitely a bit more surprising, as the ACC might have seemed to be the ticket. But the offer came from the Big 12, and they move from the Big East.

Now, these two teams get to tangle with the likes of Oklahoma and Texas. And it's the Sooners who are garnering the majority of the attention in the offseason when it comes to a national championship contender out of the Big 12, and for good reason. Last season's preseason No.1 team in the country returns a number of starters, including quarterback Landry Jones. Oklahoma has been set as the heavy favorite to win the Big 12 this season.

The Sooners are a head above the rest of the league on preseason accolades and expectations, but outside of Texas, it's the two new kids on the block who many believe might get a chance at challenging atop for the BCS bowl berth for the conference championship. There is still no Championship game, but it should be a very fun season in the Big 12 in 2012. College football fans, especially in the Big 12, will be treated to a variety of games that they have never seen with West Virginia in the mix. But at the end of the day, all eyes will be on Oklahoma and Texas and how they will perform during the season.
