2012 Texas Longhorns Football Preview

The Texas Longhorns are one of the most historic and rich programs when it comes to college football. With many conference and national championships to their credit, Texas football is known throughout the country as one of the best. The University of Texas is located in Austin, Texas, with Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium the home of the Longhorns. That stadium is one of the largest in college football, seating over 100,000 fans. Texas has won 32 conference championships and four national titles in their history, which dates back to 1893. The Longhorns have also produced two Heisman Trophy winners. Texas is definitely at the apex of college football when it comes to a winning tradition. They play in arguably the greatest rivalry in sports in the Red River Rivalry with Oklahoma.

2012 Texas Longhorns Outlook

Eight wins might be good for some programs in college football around the country, but it is definitely not acceptable in Austin, Texas. And if you are the highest paid coach in college football like Mack Brown, people expect results. Texas is expected to be better than they were last season in 2011, but they are still set well behind the Sooners on the odds to win the conference, and well behind in the BCS national championship lines. Texas simply hasn't been the offensive juggernaut that they have been in the past as evidenced by their 55th national ranking in "points for". It will need to start in the passing game if they hope to improve, and that position will need to be solidified early in the season. Texas gets a couple of easy games out of the gate, but then will be be thrown into the mix right after that. Also, you can't forget about the Red River Shootout (yes, we still call it shootout) where Texas will be put to the test against hated rival Oklahoma.
