2012 Oklahoma State Cowboys Football Preview

The Oklahoma State Cowboys compete in the Big 12 Conference in college football, and are located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Cowboys compete in Boone Pickens Stadium, which was recently renovated to become one of the foremost facilities in college athletics today. The stadium can hold over 60,000 screaming Cowboy fans. Oklahoma State joined the inaugural campaign of the Big 12 conference back in 1996 as a charter member. The Cowboys have won 11 conference championships in their history, but have no national titles. They have one Heisman Trophy winner, which was running back Barry Sanders during the 1988 record breaking season he had. In total, Oklahoma State has been to 22 bowl games. They have a number of rivals, highlighted by the end of the year match up with in-state school Oklahoma.

2012 Oklahoma State Cowboys Outlook

The Oklahoma State Cowboys came within a breath of playing for the BCS championship last season. But coming into 2012, that doesn't appear to be likely. The Cowboys lost a lot of talent at key positions, including quarterback Brandon Weeden, and wide receiver Justin Blackmon. Both were first round NFL draft picks. Oklahoma State will probably not be the high-flying offensive attack of last season, where they were the second highest scoring team in the nation. That will almost certainly take a hit, but head coach Mike Gundy has some talent to work with. Don't be surprised to see Oklahoma State in contention late in the season.
