2012 SEC College Football Preview

Coming into the 2012 season, the Southeastern Conference is unquestionably the dominant force in college football. The SEC is fresh off of a sixth-straight BCS Championship victory, with Alabama the latest of the string of champions, their second during the streak. And a seventh-straight really doesn't seem all that far from reach when looking at the quality of talent that is in the SEC this season. Alabama returns the majority of their starters, while their opponent in the national championship game in LSU does the same. And over on the Eastern division it's Georgia, South Carolina and Florida who are all contenders to get to Atlanta.

The SEC appears to be as strong as ever, with four of the top-eight preseason favorites on BCS Championship betting odds. And with the two new additions to the conference in Texas A&M and Missouri, we will get to see some great matchups that are new to the conference. The Aggies will compete in the West division, while the Tiger wills be in the East. Texas A&M will play their first SEC conference game will be against an East opponent at home against Florida on Sept 8, which is definitely a game that will garner some national attention. As will Missouri's first conference game, as the Tigers will host Georgia on the same day.

The West division once again appears to be the stronger of the two divisions, with Alabama, LSU and Arkansas at the top. Then Auburn and Mississippi are expected to win some games as well. Georgia is the top preseason dawg in the East, and thanks to an easy SEC schedule, a lot is expected in Athens. The Bulldogs avoid all of the three top teams in the West, playing Auburn and Mississippi in their two cross division games. The road to Atlanta is definitely less bumpy than for some of the others. But an easy SEC schedule is still difficult by schedule standards. Whoever makes the SEC championship game we can assume might have a shot at making the BCS national championship game to try and extend that title streak up to seven.
