2012 Florida Gators Football Preview

The Florida Gators are members of the Eastern Division in the Southeastern Conference, and one of the most successful teams in the conference since it split into two divisions back in 1992. The first year of Florida football was back in 1906, but the Gators have been in the SEC since 1932. Florida has won eight conference titles in their history, and three national championships. Two of those national championships came within a three-year period in the Bowl Championship Series era. But it was the 1990s when Florida made their rise to the national stage with coach Steve Spurrier. Florida has produced three Heisman winners. Located in Gainesville, Florida, the Gators play in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, with can host over 88,000 fans. The Gators main rivals are the Florida State Seminoles, played at the end of the year, and the Georgia Bulldogs, played annually in Jacksonville.

2012 Florida Gators Outlook

The first year under head coach Will Muschamp was definitely trying for the Florida Gators. But they had a very tough schedule, and let's be honest, they were not the most talented team at Florida of late. But a year under the system coming into 2012 has Florida make on the map both on the national landscape, and in the SEC to challenge for a trip to Atlanta. The Gators will have to get bettong both both sides of the ball though, after allowing a shocking 32 points per game on defense, ranking 96th in the country. That is not the Gator way. Then on offense they will need to get settled with a starter after the departure of senior John Brantley.
