2012 LSU Tigers Football Preview

The Louisiana State Tigers, more commonly known as just LSU, compete in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference in College Football. And in the Bowl Championship Series Era, the Tigers are right up at the top of the list when it comes to the most dominant teams in the nation. LSU has racked up two national titles in the BCS era, and three overall. The first season of LSU football goes back to 1893. Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, LSU plays in Tiger Stadium, which is widely revered as the most difficult stadium to play in in the country for visiting teams. Tiger Stadium can host of 92,500 fans. Perhaps the most famous incident came in 1988, when the crowd noise was so loud that it actually registered as a small earthquake. LSU has produced 14 conference championships and one Heisman Trophy winner in their history.

2012 LSU Tigers Outlook

The LSU Tigers endured a heartbreaking loss at the end of a great season, in the BCS Championship game to rival Alabama. But they still have to look back and think it was a successful year, going undefeated in the regular season and winning the SEC title. LSU is projected to be right there at the end of the season, behind only USC on the odds to win the national title. Going into 2012, the expectations are just as high, with a new quarterback under center in former Georgia transfer Zach Mettenberger. Pegged as a big-time arm, Mettenberger will definitely present a new look to the Tigers offense. And on the defensive side of the ball, 2011 Heisman finalist Tyrann Mathieu will headline this group as one of the top defenses in the nation. Things are definitely looking bright in Baton Rouge, with a national championship mentality or bust on campus once more.
