2012 South Carolina Gamecocks Football Preview

The South Carolina Gamecocks compete in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina football goes all the way back to 1892. Located in Columbia, South Carolina, the Gamecocks play in Williams-Brice Stadium, which can hold over 80,000 as a max capacity crowd, and is one of the loudest stadiums in the conference. The Gamecocks have never won a Southeastern conference title though, only winning the East division once in 2010. South Carolina has won one conference championship, back in 1969 when they were in the Atlantic Coast Conference. South Carolina has never won a national championship, but has produced one Heisman Trophy winner. In 17 bowl appearances in their history, the Gamecocks have tabbed a 5-12 record. With many rivals in the SEC, it's perhaps their rival with in-state school Clemson that is the most heated, and probably considered their chief rival as a regular season finale tradition.

2012 South Carolina Gamecocks Outlook

It's been a good last couple of seasons for the South Carolina Gamecocks. The team won 11 games last season and come into 2012 pegged as one of the top contenders for the East division and within the conference. South Carolina is led by a corps of young talent on both sides of the ball. At the forefront of that list will be rising junior running back Marcus Lattimore. Lattimore is coming off of an injury-plagued season though, but big things are expected from him in 2012.
