2012 Pitt Panthers Football Preview

The Pittsburgh Panthers are members of the Big East conference, however they are slated to leave the conference and join the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013. The Panthers have been a member of the Big East since 1991, as one of the older members in the league currently. Pitt plays at Heinz Field, which is also the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which holds 65,000. Pitt is one of the more decorated programs in the Big East having won both conference and national championships, and a Heisman Trophy winner. Tony Dorsett is the only Heisman Trophy winner at Pitt, however they have had numerous players come close including Dan Marino, who might be their most famous football alum.

2012 Pittsburgh Panthers Outlook

Pittsburgh is one of the two teams departing the conference soon, as they will go to the ACC. But in 2012, the Panthers still aren't expected to do much in the Big East, coming in the middle of the pack in terms of the favorites to reach a BCS bowl. The Panthers also have a difficult out of conference schedule, that includes games against Virginia Tech in September, and Notre Dame in November.
