2012 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Football Preview

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights compete in the Big East conference, one of six current BCS conferences in FBS. Rutgers competed in the first ever college football game back in 1869 against Princeton. That game was won by Rutgers 6-4. Coincidentally, Rutgers claimed to win their only national championship that year. The Scarlet Knights also have three conference championships, but have yet to win the Big East. Rutgers plays in High Point Solutions Stadium, with a maximum capacity of 52,000. There has never been a Heisman Trophy winner at Rutgers, but they have had 45 All Americans, and funneled numerous players into the NFL. The most notable former player currently is Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice.

2012 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Outlook

Rutgers lost their head coach to the NFL, which should say something about their program. The Scarlet Knights have gone from a perennial loser, to at least a contender during the season. This team won nine games last season, and if they can equal that mark again in 2012, that will definitely be there with a chance to win the Big East.
