The Illinois Fighting Illini compete in the Leaders division of the Big Ten conference. The first season of Illinois football was back in 1890. The Fighting Illini are located in Champaign, Illinois, and play in Memorial Stadium. The capacity crowd in the stadium is over 62,000. Illinois has claimed to win five national championship in their long history, including 15 conference championships. The school has yet to produce a Heisman Trophy winner. Illinois has played in 17 bowl game, tabbing an 8-9 record. Illinois enters the season off of a 7-6 record in 2011. to contend for the division and the Big Ten championship, there will need to be a lot of improvement, particularly on offense. The Fighting Illini ranked 91st in the nation in points scored averaging just over 22 points per game. The inability to score puts a ton of pressure on your defense. That defense stepped up in 2011 keeping them in ball games, ranking 15th in the country. But it will have to be every bit as good in 2012.
