2012 Stanford Cardinal Football Preview

The Stanford Cardinal compete in the North Division of the Pacific 12 conference. The Cardinal football program goes back to 1892. Located in Stanford, California, the football team plays in Stanford Stadium, which can host a capacity crowd of 50,00. The Cardinal have won 12 conference championships and two national titles in their storied history. Their last national championship came in 1940. The school has produced one Heisman Trophy winner. There are a number of big rivalry games for Stanford, led by their annual showdown with the Cal Golden Bears. In 1982, they played in one of the most famous games in college football history, with the band for Stanford coming out on the field before the last play on the kickoff, where Cal scored.

2012 Stanford Cardinal Outlook

It will be a completely new look for Stanford this season, having said goodbye to No.1 draft pick Andrew Luck, one of the best quarterbacks in college football history. But more than that, the Cardinal lost a number of key players on both sides of the ball. And really, it's because of that that the Cardinal fall from grace on both the national stage and the Pac 12 stage. In fact, Stanford isn't even considered a serious contender in the division, much less for a national championship. Head coach David Shaw will have his work cut out for him this season.
