2012 Utah Utes Football Preview

The Utah Utes are one of the new members to the Pacific 12 conference after the conference expanded in 2011. Utah competes in the South division of the conference. Utah football has been around since 1892. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Utes play in Rice–Eccles Stadium, which can host over 45,000 fans. In their history, the Utes have won 24 conference championships but have yet to win a national title. The jump to the Pac 12 conference was a move that the program needed to make to compete more seriously for a national title as a member of one of the main six conferences in college football. Utah has been to 17 postseason bowl games, and have an impressive 13-4 record in those appearances.

2012 Utah Utes Outlook

Utah had a pretty solid 2011 campaign in the Pac 12, and have transitioned nicely into BCS conference play. Eight wins is respectable, but obviously Utes fans want more for validation that they belong with the big boys now. A Pac 12 South championship would definitely do that, although that doesn't appear likely for 2012, at least not according to the latest odds to win the South Division of the Pac 12. To do so would likely mean winning games against USC and going on the road to take on Washington while not losing trap games against the likes of Arizona, Colorado, etc...
