2012 North Carolina Tar Heels Football Preview

The North Carolina Tar Heels play in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and have been a member of the ACC since 1953. But the Tar Heels have been playing football for much longer. In fact, the first season of football at North Carolina was back in 1888. Since then, the Tar Heels have racked up nine conference titles in their history, though no national championships. Since the ACC split into two divisions, the Tar Heels have not won the Coastal Division or an ACC championship. The Tar Heels have been to 29 bowl games in their history, with a 13-16 record through the 2011 season. North Carolina plays at Kenan Memorial Stadium, which can hold 63,000 in the stands.

2012 North Carolina Tar Heels Outlook

North Carolina comes in as a middle of the roader in the 2012 college football season. The Tar Heels are not expected to be serious contenders on the national stage nor in the ACC. But there is always that chance to win the division. There is plenty of room for improvement, particularly in the rushing department for North Carolina. They ranked 76th in the country in rush yards per game.
