2012 Virginia Tech Hokies Football Preview

The Virginia Tech Hokies have been playing football since 1892. The Hokies currently play in the ACC, but came over from the Big East Conference. Since their arrival in the ACC, Virginia Tech has been the most successful team in the conference, winning four conference championships since their arrival in 2004. Between the Big East and ACC, the Hokies have won seven conference championships. The Hokies play in one of the most hostile environments in college football at Lane Stadium. Lane Stadium only hosts 66,000, but it is one of the most powerful atmospheres in the country. Surprisingly, Virginia Tech has yet to win a national championship during their history. But they have been a model of consistency under head coach Frank Beamer, who has been there for a quarter century.

2012 Virginia Tech Hokies Outlook

The Hokies are expected to play a prominent role in the outcome of the 2012 ACC championship this season. Virginia Tech has owned the coastal division since they joined about 10 years ago. Quarterback Logan Thomas returns and is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks in the conference, if not the country. At the heart of the team the Hokies still rely on a hard-nosed defense, which ranked seventh in the country in scoring in 2011.
