2012 Virginia Cavaliers Football Preview
The Virginia Cavaliers first football season was back in 1888. And in over a century of football, Virginia is one of the top places to play in the country. The Cavaliers play in the Coastal division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia calls Scott Stadium home, which can hold 61,000 fans. The Cavaliers have two ACC titles, the last of which came in 1995. In 18 trips to a bowl game, the Cavaliers have posted a 7-11 record. Virginia has never won a national championship in college football, but routinely puts together a competitive program every season in the ACC. The University of Virginia campus is located in Charlottesville. In the heart of ACC country, there are no shortage of rivals for the Cavaliers, highlighted by Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Maryland.
2012 Virginia Cavaliers Outlook
The Virginia Cavaliers almost pulled off one of the surprise events of the season in the ACC, narrowly missing out on a berth in the ACC championship game. The Cavaliers needed a win over Virginia Tech in the final game of the season, but came up short. Still, it was an impressive season for Mike London's program. Coming into 2012, the Cavaliers are picked to finish in the middle of the Coastal division.
